RebusChain Ecosystem Glossary of Terms/Acronyms

At RebusChain, we always emphasize creating a strong and connected community within the wider blockchain ecosystem. To achieve this, we understand that all users must clearly understand what we mean, even on technical documents such as our whitepaper.

To facilitate this understanding, we have created a comprehensive glossary of terms that are commonly used within the project. This glossary is a convenient reference guide for anyone to have a clear understanding of the technical terms, features and products they may encounter while exploring the RebusChain ecosystem.

Ecosystem

Cosmos SDK

The Cosmos SDK is a framework for building blockchain applications. It is designed to be flexible and developer-friendly, with support for various programming languages.

It also provides a range of features and functionalities ,consensus, staking, governance, and more, that developers can use to create custom applications tailored to their specific needs. The Cosmos SDK is a key component of the Cosmos ecosystem, enabling the creation of new blockchains and interoperable applications that can communicate and interact with each other.

Ethermint

A software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to build dApps and smart contracts on the Cosmos blockchain ecosystem using the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and the Solidity programming language. Ethermint is essentially an implementation of the EVM on top of Tendermint, the consensus engine used by Cosmos.

Ethermint brings the Ethereum EVM on Cosmos ecosystems, allowing developers to build interoperable dApps on the Cosmos blockchain using the Solidity programming language. This enables RebusChain to leverage the strengths of both networks and build more powerful and versatile financial products that can meet the needs of a wider range of users.

Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC)

A protocol for communication between independent blockchain networks within the Cosmos ecosystem. IBC allows different blockchains to communicate and transfer tokens and data between each other securely and efficiently, enabling the creation of more complex applications and interoperability between different blockchains.

By leveraging IBC, RebusChain can potentially expand its capabilities and offer users access to a wider range of decentralized finance (DeFi) products and services, as well as enable cross-chain transactions and asset transfers.

Keplr Wallet

A multi-chain wallet for managing cryptocurrency assets on the Cosmos network and other blockchains.

NFTID (Nifdy)

A decentralized identification system to be used worldwide by organizations to recognize its members. NFTID will be directly linked to each user wallet, meaning if you lose your wallet, you lose your nifdy. This is how we keep it entirely decentralized.

Unlike traditional documents, on your nifdy, you can choose to input your real name, date of birth, and nationality or decide to use an entirely fictitious set of details. The information available to others will be down to the NFTID holder and not public knowledge. To show its potential, we have decided to test it within Rebus by creating a ‘Rebus Nation’ formed of die-hard fans wanting to help push the project forward.

To mint the NFTID, users will need to pay a small fee in $REBUS, and also lock some $REBUS to activate the NFTID.

Rebus Explorer

Rebus Explorer is a tool that allows users to view and explore the RebusChain network. It provides real-time information about transactions, blocks, validators, and other data on the blockchain.

Users can use the explorer to search for specific transactions, view block details, and monitor the status of the network. It is an important tool for developers, investors, and other users who want to monitor the performance and activity of the RebusChain network.

Rebus Investment

Rebus Investment is a Switzerland-based privately-owned company that operates in the fintech sector, with specific interest in the link between decentralized (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi).

The goal of Rebus Investment is to facilitate the adoption of DeFi investment products by end customers through Traditional Financial companies, including but not limited to banks, assets managers, and insurance companies.‍

Rebus Investment has partnered with Rebus Chain to develop the DeFi infrastructure to support the platform.‍

Rebus Investment will focus on developing the infrastructure needed for the investments in the DeFi crypto space to follow regulations in the TradFi side.

Rebus Nation

Rebus Nation is a community-driven initiative to provide a space for members to interact, collaborate, and share information related to the RebusChain ecosystem. Users can connect with other members, stay up-to-date on the latest news and developments, and participate in various activities.

Rebus Vault

Rebus brings crypto investment opportunities to TradFi investors, and Rebus Vault is what makes it possible. The vault acts as a layer between the investor and different DeFi investments.

Rebus Direct Products

Products built and maintained by the Rebus team and implemented directly into the Rebus Vault. Rebus is the sole supplier of these products, using no 3rd party smart contracts or applications.

All direct products receive FIAT currency backing through Rebus crypto and partner client funds. The Rebus Vault is directly linked to each product, collecting fees for the entire Rebus ecosystem and its partners.

Rebus Layered Products

These are 3rd party applications running on the RebusChain (among others), interconnected through the Cosmos ecosystem, and using the Rebus investment and inter-blockchain connection logic. The Rebus Vault utilizes the Cosmos IBC/ICA to interact with the applications and collect fees for the ecosystem and our partners.

Staking Products

Staking products can be direct or layered products.

When direct, the product focuses on the native $REBUS coin, allowing users the opportunity to earn a passive return on their investment.

When layered, the product can focus on any supported coin, such as $ATOM, $JUNO, or $OSMO, to name a few, for the same passive earning potential.

Each staking product varies in duration, reward, and risk. These variables allow the creation of staking products that fit the needs of specific investor portfolios, just as with traditional investments.

Traditional Finance (TradFi)

The traditional financial system including banks, asset managers, and other centralized financial institutions.

Tendermint

Tendermint is a consensus engine that enables the building of high-performance, secure, and decentralized applications. It is used in combination with the Cosmos SDK to build custom blockchain applications with their own unique features and functionality. RebusChain uses Tendermint as the basis for its consensus mechanism, which helps to ensure the security and reliability of its network.

Validator

A validator is a node on a blockchain network that participates in the consensus process by verifying transactions and adding new blocks to the blockchain. Validators are responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of the network by validating transactions and preventing fraudulent activities.

Validators are typically required to stake a certain amount of cryptocurrency as collateral, which is used to incentivize them to act in the best interests of the network. In return for their services, validators are rewarded with cryptocurrency tokens.

Validators play a crucial role in the operation of proof-of-stake (POS) blockchain networks like RebusChain, where they are responsible for securing the network and maintaining its integrity.
